Welcome Luke Joseph!!!
Our new little man came to us on Oct. 15th! He surprised us and came 10 days early! I am really glad he decided to make he debut early, because mommy was pretty uncomfortable! It was also fun to actually go into labor on my own and not be induced like I was with the other 2 kiddos.
On Friday, the 15th, I woke up and knew my body was up to something. I had contractions on and off all day. I called my doctor and I went in to be checked out that morning. They hooked me up to a "stress test" to measure contractions and they were happeneing but not consistently enought to be considered active labor. So, I went back home and they told me to come back that afternoon. I went back, but again, not "active labor". I came home aound 3-4 and just started keeping track of the contractions...and between 5-6, they really started taking my breath away and they became closer together. When Seth got home from school, I had our evening planned...we were going to take the kids to Willie's to eat so Emily could play games with Daddy. But I hardly could make it out the door. Seth was insisiting we go the hospital and I was insisting we go to Willie's. ;) I was nervous it would be a false alarm and I didn't want to get everyone worked up. Well, Seth won and I am thankful he did. Seth's mom, Gigi, took Emily and Grant to eat and Seth took me to the hospital. We got there around 6-6:30. They hooked me up to machines...I was still measuring a 3...so they didn't know if it was real labor at first. Pretty quickly they moved me to a labor and delievery room (still saying they didn't know if it was real labor), but at this point, I knew my baby Luke would be coming soon. The nurse left for a while (it seemed like an eternity!) and I had some awful awful contractions while she was away. We kept calling for a nurse to come...WHERE DID SHE GO?!? Seth appearenly made a little fuss at the nurse's station and finally someone she came to check on me. I told the nurse before she left that in my previous deliveries, I progress really fast, but I guess she didn't believe me. When she came back and checked me, I was a 7 and dying from pain! The rest is kind of a blur to me, but I remember the room getting crazy...nurses, doctors, the anesthesiologist...thank you, Jesus, that I could still get my epidural. And thank you, Jesus, for it working for the first time in 3 pregnancies! (Come to find out later...it was the anestheseologists first day at the hospital!) Before I knew it...sort of a 1/2 push later...my new sweet baby boy was in our arms...born at 9:21 pm. He was another big Sullivan baby...8 pounds 10 ounces...and 21 5/8 inches long. (SOOO glad he came 10 days early!)
My mom, Grammy, was on a airplane and trying to get there, but she was about 20 mintues late. :( But what a fun night (minus feeling the contractions up to a 7)...our surprise pregnancy followed by a surprise delivery with just my sweet Seth and me.
Welcome to our family, baby Luke!
